Paul Meyer had been talking about his next plane for a while. He found the SBACH 342 made by Pilot-RC. Paul reports that the maiden flight in mid November went exceptionally well.meyers sbach342 smallThe following description is from Paul's email.

The full scale Sbach is an all carbon fiber composite airplane designed in Germany by Philipp Steinbach. The engine is a Lycoming, and the ship comes in two versions, the two place Sbach 342 and the single seat Sbach 300. For more information see: http://www.xtremeair.de/web/aircraft.php

Paul's Sbach is equipped with a DA50-R in which he installed an ultra light weight canister exhaust from K&S in Germany. There is a flex header from the motor exhaust port to the canister that resides in the middle of the fuselage. The outlet from the canister is in the bottom of the center part of the fuse. It took him three tries and some cutting of the final canister to get the engine/header/canister mated happily.

The engine is currently on break-in fuel (32:1) turning a Xoar 22x8 prop. After about 4 gallons of run in fuel, Paul will switch to a Vess 23A prop and 50:1 gasoline mix with Stihl synthetic 2 stroke oil.

Installed are five Futaba 250 in/oz BLS155 brushless digital servos. One for each surface.

She weighs in at just under 16 pounds ready to fly.

Paul will be working on the mixes and getting familiar with the SBACH 342 airframe next season
